The Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life, situated in the President’s Office, works across Georgetown to connect students, faculty, and the broader public to the university’s Catholic and Jesuit identity.

The Initiative is led by its founder and director John Carr. Before coming to Georgetown, Carr served for over 20 years as director of the Department of Justice, Peace, and Human Development at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), assisting the bishops in sharing Catholic social teaching and directing their public policy and advocacy efforts on major domestic and international issues. Established in 2013, the Initiative has since been joined by a staff and a team of Georgetown University undergraduate student fellows and research assistants.
