As a leader of the nine-member Council of Cardinals that advises Pope Francis, Cardinal Oscar Rodríguez is uniquely qualified to articulate and interpret Pope Francis’ vision of a Church “of and for the poor.” The conversation with Cardinal Rodríguez was moderated by John Carr, director of the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life. Welcome remarks were given by Georgetown President John DeGioia.
This event was cosponsored by the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life; the Office of the President; the Office of Mission and Ministry; the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and the Catholic Latino Leadership Initiative/Iniciativa de Liderazgo Católico.
Cardinal Oscar Rodríguez is the archbishop of Tegucigalpa and the first cardinal from Honduras. He also serves as president of Caritas Internationalis which brings together Catholic charitable ministries from around the world.
Pope Francis has placed Catholic Social Thought at the center of ecclesial and public life, and he had especially prioritized work for those who are poor and vulnerable.
