Summary

In 2013 Georgetown President John J. DeGioia invited John Carr to launch the Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life at Georgetown – a promising but untested idea. Since then, the Initiative has become a respected national center of principled and civil dialogue on faith and public life, a leader in sharing Catholic social teaching and the message of Pope Francis, and a distinctive place of encouragement and formation for young and Latino leaders.

Celebrating Ten Years of Leadership and Dialogue: Building for the Future

Investing in the Initiative’s Future

At this pivotal moment, the Initiative seeks to build on its proven success with the:

  • Right Mission: convening and dialogue at the intersection of Catholic faith and​public life on Catholic social thought; building bridges across political, religious, and ideological boundaries; and encouraging young and Latino Catholics to see their faith as an asset in pursuing the common good.
  • Right Time: The tenth anniversary effort will recognize the success of the Initiative to honor John Carr’s original vision and leadership and support Kim Daniels’ leadership now and into the future.
  • Right Leaders: President John J. DeGioia, Kim Daniels, and John Carr can help Georgetown University seize this moment to advance the mission of Pope Francis and the common good.
  • Right Place: Situated in the heart of the nation’s capital, Georgetown University is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit university in the United States.
